What I collect

Only what you type into the contact form: your name, email address, business name if you give one, your message, and how you heard about me. The form also records the date, your IP address and your browser's user-agent string, which exist to stop automated spam and to prove when you gave consent.

Why I collect it

To reply to you. That is the whole purpose. I do not sell it, share it, or add you to a mailing list unless you ticked the box asking me to.

Cookies and visitor statistics

This site sets one cookie, and only on the contact page. It is a PHP session cookie named PHPSESSID, it holds nothing but a random identifier, it exists to stop forged form submissions, and it disappears when you close your browser.

There are no visitor statistics on this site at all at the moment, and no advertising trackers of any kind.

There are no advertising trackers, no social-media pixels, no embedded fonts and no third-party scripts anywhere on this site.

Marketing email

Under Canada's anti-spam legislation, sending you a commercial message needs your consent. Sending me an inquiry gives me six months to reply about that inquiry. It does not put you on a list. If you ticked the newsletter box, you gave express consent, which lasts until you withdraw it — and every email I send will carry an unsubscribe link that works.

How long I keep it

Inquiries are kept for three years, then deleted. Consent records are kept for the same period because the law puts the burden of proof on the sender.

Who else touches it

• My web host, which runs the server this site sits on.
• My email provider, which delivers your message to me.
• Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), which sits in front of this site.

Some of this happens outside Canada. The server, and the service that sits in front of it, are operated outside the country, so what you send me may be stored or passed through another jurisdiction and may be accessible to that country's authorities under its own laws. I mention it because you are entitled to know it before you decide to write to me.

Your rights

You can ask to see what I hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email [email protected] and I will deal with it. I will reply within thirty days, which is the period the law allows.

If you are not satisfied

Tell me first — I would rather fix it. If that does not resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, because this business operates in British Columbia, to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia. Neither costs anything.
